My Story:
I grew up with cattle in South Africa.
My first introduction to the virtues of the Nguni was as a young lad in the South of the country. I was hiking through the hills of Transkei when a Xhosa Induna (Chief) called me over to share in a feast of his kraal (homestead) with friends.
It was early in the morning. They killed an Nguni the previous evening. Fresh meat was indiscriminately cut and charred in the flames of an open fire. I did not want to embarrass my host with excessive chewing so I reached for my pocket knife to slice the tough meat.
When the Induna noticed my plan he waved at me to put the knife away. He explained that I would not need it ...
All the men laughed and nodded their heads in agreement.
Without a knife and fork I then enjoyed the most tender and tastiest beef I have ever eaten!
